hello… i am REALLY hoping someone can get me out of this one!

i recently upgraded to FC studio 5.1, upgraded Black Magic Decklink driver to 5.7.2, upgraded QT to 7.1.3.
(MAC G5 dual processor OSX 10.4.8)

the system has been running ok for a couple of days, except for some weird file connections when relinking media within a project.
    apart from this all ok.

i just tried to open FC Studio, and shortly after it started reloading…. it just stopped loading. now i cant open the application at all, from either a project, or directly out of the applications folder. i was using the software not more than 5mins ago and it was fine.

i have rebooted. no change. this is a bit scarey? no?

reinstall? what’s stopping this from happening again?

(dont know whether this is relevent: today i accidently set my OS hard drive as my scratch target. i changed this to my external Sanman drive this afternoon. i deleted the scratch files that had already accumulated on my OS drive: render files, thumbnail and waveform cache files… maybe FCP is trying to find something that i have deleted?… this would be weird though, because i opened a project successfully after i had dumped these files. i did also get a warning saying that FCP couldnt locate my scratch target… i reselected it without a problem and continued. no problems after this until i quite FCP and then tried to reopen.)

    thanks in anticipation..

Download and run FCP Rescue…click on TRASH. This will trash three preference files.

    See if that works.

    thank you Shane.

sorted. just for future reference, what was the problem and how did this software sort it out? (i dont need you to write me a manual, but i like to know basically what the issue is, so im not just pressing buttons and hoping it all comes together in the end. my drives have had a lot of media running over them in the last 2 years… maybe i need to overhaul?)

    thanks again..

It trashes three FCP preference files that might have gotten corrupted. When FCP was launched it created fresh ones.
