I’m a professional documentary editor working with Final Cut Pro. I’ve been approached by an independent film-maker in the hope of collaborating on a more or less philanthropic documentary project, ie: no funds. He’s shooting out in the field and wants to cut rough assemblies of his rushes on a laptop, using Final Cut Express. He’d then send me these and I’d fine cut and master the story. I’ve been told that I could certainly import his project and proceed as suggested, but that media digitised on FCE doesn’t have source-timecode, so I’d be unable to auto-conform. In the normal course of events that probably wouldn’t be necessary, but I wonder what other pitfalls might await us. If anyone has experience of mingling the two systems I’d be very grateful for advice.
