FCP COLOR HELP Broadcast safe/RGB limit + RGB Parade…
Just a quick question regarding RGB Parade..
I have just started getting into broadcast standards, and recently got a tape rejected due to Reds and Blues being to high…
I went through read everything I can and spoke to some people about the issue.
Applied Broadcast safe (Extremely conservative) set RGB limitingto 98 and checked the video scopes…
Before I re-master… I wouldve thought going through those options wouldve made it safe… but the odd thing is, when I play through the footage the RGB parade appears to all stay under 98% – yet when i stop it – there are particles that are way above the 98% line I set…
Im not 100% sure on the RGB Parade display, and it may be a quirk of displaying things differently when Im on a static image…
Here are two screen grabs of different parts in the footage- as you can see, red appears to be exceeding my 98 limit 🙁

Hi Charles,
The PARADE gives you a relative representation of the distribution of the three colors. Is very helpful for CC, but is not a tool to mesure levels.
You need to use the Vectorcope.
Look now at your .jpg’s:
You see the line pointing up and reaching the border of the circle?
That is are your RED’s.
That line SHOULD NEVER PASS the small BOX [R].
So imagine a line that links all the small boxes.
The signal in your Vectorscope SHOULD never touch this line.
Otherwise you Chroma will be ilegal. Every color out there is over saturated.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1

Just have a few things to clarify…

You mean the white lines that appear to be bordering right on the 100 radius (near [R]) ? If so then it would appear my reds are exceeding the legal chroma limit ?So in that image my reds are still non-broadcast safe looking at the vectorscope?
If so – how should I adjust them to bring them down? as I have already applied Broadcast safe/RGB limiting to that footage..

RGB Parade is your luminance. Vectorscope measures Chroma.
Broadcast Safe Filter does NOT limit chroma. You do this manually by bringing down the saturation to acceptable levels on each shot, just like you do with your video levels.

Right. This line shouldn’t go further than the line that would connect the RED with the MAGENTA.
About the “Broadcast Safe” filter, I can not tell you much. I prefer using the CC-3W filter.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
