I need to move a half finished project from fcp 6.03 to fcp 6.02 (just realized I had to do this..) is there any easy way to do this? hopefully without having to upgrade or downgrade either system?

    Try exporting an XML.

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

are there any risks to moving a project from 6.03 to 6.02: is the transition usually smooth?

Using an XML there is no risk at all. The matter is, if its works or not.
An XML is basically a description of your sequence that can be read by older FC versions or even by other application (like PP).
The complex your project, the difficult to be “rebuild”. If your sequence contains only cuts, easy. Multilayers, transitions, filters complicate things, while some of the properties or parameters can be simply not understood by the”new” appilcation.
Just try. Export an XML of your FC 6.0.3 and import it to 6.0.2. See the results.
