FCP Capture then Render?
I’ve been having an issue lately where my FCP projects will capture from my Sony DV Deck, appear fine in my browser, but need to always be rendered in the timeline before playback. I never used to have this issue and it randomly started happening recently. My capture disk, render files, audio renders and auto saves all go the same drive so I’m not sure why FCP needs to render every video file that it is trying to work with. Any ideas??

I suspect a mismatch between the capture settings and the sequence settings. The one that always gets me is making sure the anamorphic is ticked on the file, before dropping into an anamorphic sequence.
