I’m trying to capture HD footage from a Sony HDV 1080i miniDV camera. I recorded in HDV1080i. But when I try to capture in Final Cut Pro, it will only capture it as DV/DVCPRO – NTSC 720×480 29.97. I’ve tried every easy setup and capture setting I can think of, but it consistently captures the same. I’ve trashed the preferences, updated the software, switched out the Firewire cable – to no avail.

What am I missing? Why is FCP only allowing me to capture footage as DV/DVCPRO-NTSC?

Is there some reason you cannot specify the device you’re using? Make sure you are using the correct HDV preset in FCP and make sure the device is set to output HDV and not downconvert to DV.

    All the best,

Thanks! Duh – should’ve checked the camera settings – it was downconverting.

By the way, after searching and reading a lot posts here and testing and configuring quite a bit in my edit studio I now have my GV-HD700 Sony clamshell HDV deck integrated with my FCP edit system and Kona 3. My goal was to take in HDV material converted to a format that I like better. I now have deck control with timecode for batch capturing. I log-and-capture the HDV material via component as 720p 59.94 Pro Res. Sweet.

(I hijacked this string only after the original question was resolved! I hadn’t found any posts on the COW about anyone successfully using the HD700 this way so I wanted to post that it was possible.)

Help! How exactly do you change the settings on this camera. I have the same camera and I’m setting up a new version of Final Cut for the first time, but it isn’t seeing the camera. And of course I’m on a deadline.
