FCP Canvas and Viewer show up white in fcp 7

I’m having this same issue. Driving me crazy. Only happens when my 15″ macbook pro is not connected to my 20″ older cinema display.

Same problem on my 17″ Unibody and 24″ cinema display

I am running snow leopard
I cannot find the millions of colors option on my system prefs.
issue happens both when display is connected and when laptop is running solo.

System was migrated from time machine. FCP7 was upgraded from FCP6

I was recently able to fix this issue by creating a new user. Logging in as that user and then lauching final cut. WHite screens were gone. Then I logged out, and logged back in as my normal user and the white screens were still gone. Awesome!

I just started having the same white screen problem which everyone on this thread is having. I did the same thing Todd did and it fixed my problem!!!

1. Create or switch to another user.
2. Open up FCP
3. Quit FCP
4. Switch to regular user
5. Open FCP
6. Problem Fixed!!!!

I had the same problem , Mac book pro 17 ” duo core 2,5 with external cinema display 23″ and I fixed the problem changing the display color setting from MILLIONS TO THOUSANDS
Workflow:
System Preferences+ Display+color= Thousands

Seems to be fixed

After an upgrade all my students had the white screen of death on a single screen iMac running 10.5

After reading this, i did the following

1. leaving FCP running – Launched Sys Prefs
2. Opened display options
3. selected the Colour tab
– This caused a recalibration
4. Back to FCP – Played a video

All ok!

This is my working solution & I hope this helps someone

i had this issue

to fix it i went to system settings in final cut, playback control tab, make sure ‘Play base layer only if needed’ is checked – should fix it

I had this problem this week. After doing everything that everyone said, RGB, trash prefs, new user, millions to thousands to millions, I looked at the color tab in displays (MAC System Prefs) there was no profile for the cinema display. I found that the ColorSync folder was not in the system drive library folder, just a number inside angled brackets. After copying this folder from another computer – rebooted and it worked.

Same problem here, except I have an iMac, so it shouldn’t be a problem with external monitors.

We run FCP 7 here at our school on our Mac Pros with no problem. But when I installed FCP 7 (we have a license to do that, so it’s legit) on my iMac, the browser and canvas show only white.

I tried importing various clips of various resolutions; I tried checking the alpha / rgb switch; I checked the clips in the Quicktime player (they play fine); I downloaded and installed the latest updates from Apple; I created a new User and tried that. I think I tried everything suggested in this forum; no luck.

A lot of people seem to have this same problem; any body heard from Apple?
