    It seems its just a display/ grpahics setting – so this worked – i simply restored my original LCD calibration and its back working! then you just need to recalibrate.

    I also had performed an OS X system restore, and didnt want to clean wipe.

    This resoved it. Play with the display settings.

    1. leaving FCP running – Launched Sys Prefs
    2. Opened display options
    3. selected the Colour tab
    – This caused a recalibration
    4. Back to FCP – Played a video

    Thank you! I hit a button and couldn’t figure out why my Canvas and Viewer windows were all white, but read your post and realized that “Alpha” was accidentally checked under View/Channels…
