FCP and HDV????
Posted by Micah Ginn on October 19, 2006 at 3:30 pmDoes anyone know if there are HD formats unsupported by FCP?
For instance, I have shot in 24p HD, 30p HD, and HDV-SD60p, but only the 30p will import and play properly in FCP.
Is it how I’m capturing it, my sequence settings, or other? I have tried all number of combinations cannot get the 60p to work.
Any ideas?

It’s a format that the JVC HD100U supports.
I don’t think that will work with regular workflow.
You have to capture it with dvhscap and convert/conform
it with mpeg stream clip.thats the no-cost way.
you need fcp 5.1.2 to do the 24p editing.
30P should work just fine.

October 19, 2006 at 4:23 pmman, I wish I knew that.
the camera has several HD settings…on of which is HD-SD60p…and when I shot in that, the footage will not move into FCP’s timeline.
what’s odd is that the footage will capture, and it will play in the viewer, but when moved to the timeline (sequence) it will not play, even after rendering. It just becomes a big, green block of non-video.

Short answer: FCP has supported HD via 3rd party capture cards since at least version 3.x, & had been supporting DVCPro HD & some forms of HDV since version 4.5.
Longer answer: JVC & Cannon don’t play by the same rules as the rest of the industry. If you’re using JVC or Cannon gear, you may be out in the wilderness. Get details from them.
