FCP and AVCHD
Posted by Doug Collins on April 3, 2007 at 8:54 pmDo these two play well together? I was checking out the new Panasonic AG-HSC1U and wasn’t sure if they were compatible yet.

April 3, 2007 at 9:03 pmThere is nothing official about this, but FCP will be way behind the game if they don’t introduce compatibility for this at NAB. So check on Apple’s website at around 1:00pm on Sunday, April 15.

April 3, 2007 at 9:54 pmWay behind the game! I don’t see Avid rushing to support it. I’ll be surprised if they have considered it a priority as its just a consumer format at the moment, Panasonic have a pro version coming up that will need supporting but according to conversations with engineers I’ve had, it’s an extremely poor quality codec to edit with.

April 4, 2007 at 5:43 pmI guess that I should say that Apple really needs to support it in iMovie and Final Cut Express HD. I don’t see a lot of people using it in FCP, but if they are going to support it in the other two programs, it should find support in FCP, even if it is only transcoding to a different codec.
I will admit that I was a little over exuberant in saying way behind the game in the pro market, but in the consumer market it’s a feature that really needs to be out there. Because of that, I think it will find it’s way into FCP around the same time.
