FCP and 23.98 to 29.97
I have just received an uncompressed 23.98fps movie (MOS) that I am going to have to synch up with all of the original audio and video because this new 23.98 version is a colour corrected version of the original video (25fps sequence). There are differences between the older video and the new ones. The 23.98 colour corrected video will have to be trimmed and lined up perfectly with the 25 version because the 23.98 has an extra 40 odd minutes because it is an extended full cut. Another issue which is probably the most major is that the subtitles will be an issue because of the frame rate differences.
My questions which I would appreciate big time help on are as follows:
Should I be redoing all of this on a 23.98 sequence or should I just drop the 23.98 onto the 25 sequence and synch there?
If I do drop the 23.98 onto the 25 sequence in FCP does that mean it will now randomly be dropping frames?
This movie is to be distributed in North America and Europe so different frame rates will be an issue, which is why that must be taken into account right now… Should it all be done on a 23.98 seq, or will I have to do it on both a 29.97 seq and 25 seq so I can meet the other standards? Or if I do it on the 23.98 sequence will I just export to an NTSC and PAL rate (would that not then throw off the subtitle tracks?)…
Any comments and or advice would be greatly appreciated as I walked into this project just now and it is my job to try to clean up these issues
