FCP 7 offline workflow for 4K XAVC footage from Z100
Hey guys, a workflow questions here.
I’m working on a documentary with a lot of different cameras. One of those include the Sony z100, shooting in 4k XAVC. We are editing FCP 7, 23.98 Apple ProRes HQ, looking to finish in 2K, so we would like to go back to the original 4K XAVC file for online.
What is the best way to bring the footage into FCP 7? My understand is that XAVC 4k is currently not supported by FCP7, is that correct? And if so, how should I create the offline files? Is it easier if I make new 4K ProRes 444 master and then transcode to a 422 HQ?

How do you plan to online? With what App?
If you use Resolve to online, it’s really easy to use Resolve to convert that footage to 1080, and link to the masters later…

The Z100 uses Sony’s XAVC recording format first employed in the PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K camera. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression is used for HD (1920 x 1080), QFHD (3840 x 2016) and 4K (4096 x 2160) content. But the latest high definition XAVC video format introduced by Sony is still not supported well by Final Cut Pro so far, not only the 4K video. To edit Sony PXW-Z100 XAVC footage in Final Cut Pro 7 or FCP X/6 smoothly, a suggestion is convert Z100 4K XAVC to ProRes with a professional XAVC Converter for Mac. I found there are several XAVC file converters are available for us.
