I am sure this has been asked several times, but I am having trouble finding the exact answer.
I am new to FCP and am trying to figure out the best media/playback drive set up.

I plan on editing some video for the web shot on a 5d…

I do not need to play out to a deck, but just want to edit/play in real time.

My first instinct would be to get 2 fire wire drives and create a RAID?

I am not sure which kind, are some faster than others?

I would love a solution that doesnt cost thousands.

    thanks
    Andrew

I found this drive on Mac Mall

    https://www.macmall.com/p/Apple-NAS-%28Network-Attached-Storage%29/product~dpno~7958787~pdp.fiijacc?ciid=43729

would this be the kind of drive that would work for me?

NAS (network attached storage) is absolutely not appropriate for your video editing, as it does not have the sustained throughput required. Check out the CalDigit VR for an excellent 2-drive FW800 Raid.

    I have another question.
I have 4 available Sata slots in my Mac Pro.
What drive configuration would you recommend for that?

is having an iternal RAID better than an external drive?

    thanks again
