Posted by Michael Edmondson on August 5, 2011 at 7:12 pm

We produce a half-hour weekly show, using FCP 7, for a dozen broadcast stations and one satellite/cable network. We are about to begin HD delivery of the show, and our sat/cable net has asked us to deliver in 1080i/59.94 XDCAM HD within an MXF wrapper.

Reading this post it sounds like XDCAM Transfer is our best option.

Do you guys have any better suggestion?

    Thanks for the assistance!

Thanks for the advice. We’ll certainly take a look at it. Right now all options are on the table for us.

Between this export, a separate export we’ll be doing for one of our broadcast stations, and closed-captioning… we’ve got a ton of learning to do in a very short time.

    That old post is wrong.
    FC can directly export MFX/XDCAM.
Just look the option “Export to XDCAM” in the File menu.

I went down this road about six weeks ago. The solution for me was XDCAM Browser and XDCAM Transfer installed, which will add “Sony XDCAM Browser” to your Export menu. You can get them here:

There could be something else out there that’s better, but the output looked fine, and the network was happy with the resulting file. That’s enough for me.

Thanks for the responses! We do have the XDCAM export options in FCP, we just weren’t sure that would give the MXF wrapper that was specified. We’ll create a test export and send it to the network to ensure it fits their needs.

Now if anyone can give us a simple method for adding closed captioning to that export…
