FCP 7 and Skype
Posted by Dave Lasdon on January 11, 2013 at 8:14 pmI recorded a phone call on Skype and it’s an mov file. When I attempted to play it, render it, or export it from FCP 7 I got “General Error.” What do I need to do?

January 14, 2013 at 8:32 pmI used iSkysoft Video Converter, which will work if i want to pay $35 for the full version. Ecamm, which makes Call Recorder, suggests using Compressor. When I tried that I got “One or more jobs do not have a source media file assigned.”

January 14, 2013 at 11:11 pmDid you drop your actual Media file onto the Browser of compressor?

January 14, 2013 at 11:34 pmThat worked. Thank you. Of course I now realize I have no idea how to output something on Compressor.

January 15, 2013 at 12:00 amI was able to convert it to Apple TV. That played fine in Quicktime and VLC but when I imported it to FCP7 It was the wrong aspect ratio and the sound had Donal Duck quacking underneath the interview.

January 15, 2013 at 5:29 amYou don’t wanna convert it to Apple TV in the first place, that is a highly compressed codec, not an editing codec.
Try a ProRes codec and on the Geometry Tab of the Inspector, make sure you have your frame size and pixel ratio set right.Greetings,

January 15, 2013 at 7:40 pmThere are a lot of settings, including a bunch for Quicktime and a bunch for advanced format conversions.
