  • FCP 7 – 720p footage is not playing back in viewer or canvas ( Image stays frozen)

Im doing Video assist on set with an Alexa HD cam feeding me a 1280 x 720p 59.94 image. Its capturing fine, but if i try and play something back, the image in the viewer ( or if i drop clip down to timeline the image in canvas) wont playback properly. The image will playback properly on my external directors monitor (Panasonic 1710 broadcast monitor). The image in the viewer and canvas stays frozen while playing back, but when i pause the playback the image will change to the current frame of where the playheads new position is, and when i play it again it will stay frozen on that frame until i pause it again and the image again will catch up to the playhead. I tried to click the RT from unlimited rt to safe rt but that didnt seem to do anything to help. I did have a clip playback at some point in the day yesterday , I didnt really change anything at that time, and couldnt get it back to playing so Im clueless as to whats going on. ANy help would be much appreciated thanks.

You have to turn on “Mirror on the desktop” for external monitor and canvas/viewer to all play together. It’s in the Audio/video settings under the A/V devices tab. Is this on?
