Hey guys, I purchased the high speed Casio EX-F1 camera that shoots beautiful 720p30 footage using the H.264 codec (not AVCHD.) The clips play perfectly on my Mac Pro using Quicktime and do import successfully into FCP 6.0.4~ but when the clip is played into the canvas window and then imported into the timeline, I can scrub the clip for a few seconds then FCP quits abruptly- everytime!
I was so frustrated I’ve tried the alternative avc1decoder that allot of people are using instead of the default H.264 decoder QT uses and it still does the same thing!!!

I put a new SATA500 GB HD in my machine and installed Mac OSX again and a fresh install of FCS2 and nothing else (with updates) and even this config quits FCP when scrubbing the Casio clips…..anyone know of anything that can be done?

I’d like to avoid transcoding the footage into another format for editing as that’s time consuming and sorta defeats the purpose of my buying a camera that shoots directly to media card eliminating tape capture or transcoding. I also don’t like the fact that the video will be bloating file size and may suffer a bit in video quality during transcode- all NO-NO’s for video!
I could transcode to Apple Pro-Res but the files will be about 5X the size they are now- so I’m not too crazy about doing this to all my clips. AIC isn’t much better and video quality would take a small hit in the transcode. Any suggestions?

As for the video clip information- QT reports this:
    Format: H.264 Decoder, 1280 x 720, Millions
    DVI ADPCM, Stereo, 44.100 kHz
    Data rate:8.36 mbits/s FPS:29.97
    Normal Size:1280 x 720 pixels (Actual)

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

Unfortunately h264 is NOT an editing codec, and FCP does not work well with it. So if you wish to work with video from that camera in FCP you will NEED to convert it to a proper editing codec first.

If you want to not have to capture from tape, and also do not want to convert footage, I would look into a different camera.
