Has anyone upgraded to FCP 6.0.3, which requires QT 7.4.5?

My assistant editor–who has upgraded–worked on several projects, but it now no longer available, and the projects he worked on can’t be opened with my system of FCP 6.0.2/QT 7.3.1.

I managed to get an XML of one sequence, but I can’t reach him now for others.

    Thanks

Yes. I am on OS 10.5.2 and everything has been working nicely.

I am on fcp 6.0.3, QT 7.4.5 and os 10.5.2. Things are running normal.

May be time to clone your drive and make the upgrade.

Also, if you use this assistant editor a lot, you should discuss with him the need to make sure your two systems are compatible.
He shouldn’t upgrade until he knows you are going to. FCP doesn’t work well in that direction. If you were a newer version than his it would work, but not the other way around.

This of course depends on the frequency you use his services and how many other clients he has, but in my mind, it at least warrants a discussion.
From your post, it appears he has worked on multiple projects for you.

Whatever the case, good communication could have saved you some hassle.

    Thanks all,

Yes, hindsight is 20/20 as they say. I never imagined he would upgrade without conferring. Time to add another warning to the assistant editor list.

This isn’t easy to answer. According to Apple, if you’re using a Kona, you should be on OS X 10.5.3 and as a result, FCP 6.0.3. However, if you have an Io HD, it looks like you should not be on 10.5.3, so you can stay on 10.5.2 and FCP 6.0.2.

Following so far? Of course, 10.5.3 has fixes for the 8800 nVidia card, which fixes the issues under 10.5.2 that made it on occasion slower than the ATI 2600. So if you have an 8800, you probably want 10.5.3.

But wait, there’s more. In addition, many of us are having issues with keying and LiveType under 6.0.3, but mostly on the new Intel Mac Pro’s. So, maybe staying at FCP 6.0.2, QT 7.4.1 and OS X 10.5.2 is the way to go… unless of course, you have a new 8-core, a Kona or an 8800 (sarcasm intentional).

So, it’s a weird time out there right now for FCP users. Hopefully Apple will finish the 3G iPhone and get back to fixing OS X and FCP…
