    Hi,
I have just upgraded my system to FCP Studio 2. I have a few sequences with various lower 3rd graphics created and rendered in After effects as lossless+ alpha QTs, the alpha however is not showing up on my FCP sequences, where the alpha should be is black.
Howver in the viwere window the clip shows up with its alpha intact?
The timeline is Pal DV, the same project worked fine on friday with same media and only seems to have started since the upgrade.
    ant help would be appreciated.

    Hmmmm,
re-rendered using straight alpha and animation codec, and it appears to have worked correctly??
Is there an issue with rendering uncompressed from after effects to fcp 6??
Or using the defaut ae alpha setting (premultiplied, matted)

You have to select in the bin the type of alpha you are using (there is a column for it). FCP often guesses wrong..though it supports all types of alphas.

    John has it correct.

FCP defaults to a straight alpha, but after importing the clip scroll to the right in your browser until you find a column marked alpha. RIght click were it says ‘straight’ and change it to ‘black’ and FCP should display the alpha properly.

I’m having a similar problem with a series of tv commercials that we do where all the on screen graphics are animated on with QT files (animation codec with embedded alpha)

The initial change of setting the alpha to black fixes one problem so now they actually have their alpha channel in the timeline (is there anyway to set this as the preset or will i have to change them every-time i import a file with alpha channel??)

My second problem is now that if i try and change any of the parameters (position, size, crop, etc) the alpha disappears and and is replaced by black, this is hard to get around as these graphics always need to be moved or resized so they can fit in where space allows.

Thought it might be worth noting that these files have worked fine for over a year now with FCP5 and the problem has only arisen since i upgraded last week to FCP6.

    Any help appreciated,

    Thanks.
