FCP 6 Running very slow, no problems previously
Hey, I’m hoping someone can help me out here.
I’ve been editing on my tower mac desktop for well over a year now. I’ve completed huge projects on it, as I cover sports, so I always have to deal with a TON of files and video.
Yesterday I was editing on FCP6 just fine, no problems.
Today I open up any project, either from my mac, or from my ext. hard-drive and everything takes forever!
Playing a clip, opening a file in the viewer, anything I do I get the spinning wheel of death.
I can’t play a clip for more the second, and then it starts skipping.I’ve run disk utility on everything and it’s come up with nothing.
The only other odd thing is that when I try to move files onto, or off of my ext. hard drives, its take forever.
For example it says a 2gb files will take 50 minutes.Not sure if the two are connected, but both just started happening out of the blue.
Any help would be great! Thanks!

sounds like you have a bad hard drive, they do go bad.
Disk Utility doesn’t do much, other than to repair permissions on the system drive I only use it for formatting a drive, not to repair it. For repair I use Disk Warrior, which repairs the directory and not bad sectors. If there is any physical damage/issues with a drive the files are offloaded asap and the drive is NEVER used again.

Slow FCP and Slow file transfers….
I formatted all my drives and reinstalled mac os x as well as fcp.This is really frustrating me as I need to edit videos for work and I simply can’t!
