  • FCP 6: Ripple to behaving strange? (works correctly on the left clip, but double lengthens/shortens right clip)

    Hello everyone.

I’m studying Media Technology and am now able to finally cut on an Mac again.
We had Avids (MC, Xpress, Xpress DV), and I’m fairly new to FCP (our section too).

In Avid I was used to trimming on side of a clip by selecting its side in the Monitor or via Keyboard (MC).

For trimming an edit (lengthen one clip, while shortening the other) I find the roll tool quite useful.

But when trimming the length of one clip, while the next clip is only dragged toward to or pushed away from it, I thought the ripple tool would be useful.

But when using the Ripple Tool, I can only shorten/lengthen the clip on the left side of the edit properly, while the right clip remains the same.
When I want to shorten/lengthen the right clip, the mentioned clip behaves strange.
When shortening/lengthening it, it will be shortened/lengthened from both sides, symmetrically.

I find that an odd behaviour.

    Any help is appreciated.

PS: Maybe it’s the concept of trimming being different in Avid and FCP.

This question is already on the FCP forum. You don’t need to double post.

    All the best,

    I know.
This was my first post, but it got not posted, even 8 hours later.
So I thought it would be lost, and posted again.
After I send my thread, I got mail that my first thread was relocated to Basics Forum.

I didn’t want to spam, troll or whatever.
    Maybe raise postcount? 😉
