  • FCP 6 and Red camera – how to import the raw files?

    Hello Wonderful People,

I have the raw files from a shoot with RED camera, shot day-for-night, for a 2-minute video that will be seen only on the internet. I’m editing on FCP 6. It would be great to have maximum control when correcting for night. I’ve never worked with R3D files.

I’ve been looking at tutorials but I can’t find one that works to bring in the footage to FCP 6.

I tried converting the files through MPG Streamclip to Apple ProRes 422(HQ) but when I brought them
into FCP they just play black.

They won’t come in through File and Transfer (directory not supported).

I downloaded Redcine-X and I can at least see the footage in there. But can’t figure out how to export.

    HELP? Many thanks, Consuelo

    THANK YOU,

    Consuelo

Redcine X or Redrushes are the software you need.

    Hello there Consuelo!

I was just wondering if you ever got around to successfully achieving the transcoding to proress 422 hq? I am currently working on a G5 on FCP 6 and was wondering how to successfully edit. Should I get the .r3d files import them into fcp6 and in log and transfer transcode them to apple prores 422 HQ, or should I get redcine x pro and transcode them to prores 422 hq there THEN import the files to fcp6? And how do i export back to the original 4k resolution once i finish editing? Do I do that from fcp6 or do I export prores 422 hq in fcp6 and then convert them back to r3d in redline x pro?
