I agree with Oliver. As a seasoned AVID | DS and Composer editor, A-S slows me way down. Clip collisions drive me crazy.

    Now for my wish list:

    1. Copy Paste Key Frames for Motion DVE
    2. Ability to bump numbers up or down in value registers as opposed to having to enter exact value.
Would love to use the scroll wheel, or bump + / – buttons or arrows for 1 or 10 digit bumps.
    3. Lasso and slide multiple key frames for audio and DVE. This MUST be addressed.
    4. Label the X Y paramaters better in Motion DVE. Improve the DVE in general.
    4. A static 2 or 4 screen box display during slip and slide. I hate having to hold mouse and slide.
    5. Ability to color code Bins. All those grey boxes drive me bonkers.
    6. Resolve issues with nested sequences. FCP does a lousy job finding clips and graphics inside nested
sequences when going from Off Line Low Rez to Hi Rez.
    7. Imporove nested functionability overall to be more like AVID|DS where ALL complicated effects
compositing are done inside a nest as opposed to stacking up numerous video tracks for FEAR of nests.
    8. Better Print to Video functionality.
    9. Ability to SET IN SET OUT by numeric entry as opposed to MARK IN MARK OUT.

That would be off to a good start for me.

[Oliver Peters] “Sorry you’re having a tough time with this”

Not a bit. I’m asking for details because this “hovering” thing appears to me as very isolated interface element, without anything similar in the rest of the UI and thus is just another layer of complexity. The app does not prepare you to the fact you gonna need some “hovering” for the specific task. You actually said it yourself:

[Oliver Peters] ” The matched clip is loaded as a source and the cursor has nothing to do with the target tracks for the edits. Those are assigned in standard track mapping used in that UI as in most others.”

“It [match frame] honors the A-S hierarchy in FCP.”

In v5 selecting a clip for match frame overrides the AS rules.

“2. Ability to bump numbers up or down in value registers as opposed to having to enter exact value. Would love to use the scroll wheel, or bump + / – buttons or arrows for 1 or 10 digit bumps.”

You can bump values with the triangles on the ends of the sliders, and the scroll wheel will activate slider values.

“4. A static 2 or 4 screen box display during slip and slide. I hate having to hold mouse and slide.”

If you select the clip before you activate slip or slide you can do it with the keyboard but there is no display other than looped play around.

“5. Ability to color code Bins. All those grey boxes drive me bonkers.”

You can add labels to color code bins.

Thanks Tom…..will give those a try.

Sometimes the problem exists between the chair and keyboard.

[Oliver Peters] “- Curves in color-correction tool”

    Ahhhhhhhh! !
    so I am not alone!

I say that without curves, FCP can’t be REALLY considered a online editing software…

[Le Coyote] “so I am not alone!”

Having done my share of CC on Symphony, I find those tools hard to beat. I do a lot on FCP and can work with it. I like the selective color correction. Now, if I had Symphony’s CC + Autodesk’s Color Warper for secondaries it would be the best NLE CC available.

I’m hoping Synthetic Aperture starts shipping the newest versions of Color Finesse shown at NAB. This will be the best CC solution for FCP other than FinalTouch, which is it’s own animal, of course, and not really tied to FCP.

the Color Wrapper you’re talking about… is it similar to the new Diamond Keyer in combustion 4? It sure would be welcome.

Does the new Color Finesse have a way to scrub the clip? I find the impossibility to scrub to be a major caveat. And you can’t animate CC either…

At least we got some sort of secondary color correction. Avid DS doesn’t even have this 😉 (but it can always be cheated with a keyer..). Not too shabby for a 999$ software…

Let’s hope they fix it in a point upgrade, because this one is worse that FCP 4’s.
