    Hi

I have a project i’ve been asked to complete that has been started in Final Cut Pro 5.2 – a basic install with no expensive automatic duck plugins.

It’s a simple 2-track assemble edit with some audio rubberbanding but not much, and almost all cuts in the video, not x-fades. no FX etc.

need to move to vegas for grading, lower-3rds etc – and because that’s the app i know.

can anyone advise on the use of EDL?

or – is it possible to import Apple XML?

I guess AAF is out as FCP as standard doesn’t ahve an AAF export option.

    Thanks in anticipation…

    Mark

    Hi
I think you’re gong to have problems. AFAIK it can’t be done but I’d also be interested in knowing from some of our guru’s here. I know DSE an others also work with Final Cut.

I have a MAC Book Pro with Final Cut Express. I’m collaborating with a fellow on a huge project and he had FCP5, just upgraded to Studio 2 and FCP6.

I’ve been all over the Apple forums and we got quite a thread going there in the FCE forum about this very thing.

The short of it is you can’t. He can’t even open my FCE Project file in FCP. Even though he’s now got FCP6 and both FCE and FCP file extensions are the same *.fcp it doesn’t work. Also FCE can’t export an CML file. Only iMovie or FCP can. Vegas cam import a AAF file though as well as save to. He has to get my project file converted somehow to XML but I don’t know how that’s done.

So I may have to get Final Cut Studio to just be able to exchange project files with him. We both have copies of the same clips for the project.
