FCP 5.1.2 capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip BUG?

As long as after your capture, your meta data is still there, you should be good to go. You can also double check and make sure that your firewire deck control is set to NDF (firewire usually defaults to DF).

Why does apple need to tweak the dialog? It is not an error message.

You are capturing 23.98 non drop content from a 29.97 drop frame tape. Just because people do not know that 24p content is NDF is not really Apples responsibility, it is yours, as the editor to know that. There is a more to working in 24p than just grabbing the easy set up, you have to learn about shutter angle, panning motion, pulldown, dupe frames and what working progressive is actually all about.

it is what it is, there is not a way for you as a user to change the timebase. Clicking on “OK” means you understand what that means.

No, it’s just like Gary says, the message is there as a reminder to the Editor that you are about to change the editing timebase. Your hitting “Ok” acknowledges that you understand what it is saying.

I’m not sure what you would want Apple to tweak there. It’s a pretty straightforward message.

Hey Gary – Welcome to the world of humility… calm down a little, eh?

This thread started from people who are having actual issues with FCP 5.1.2.. whether or not you are superstar FCP man or not, people need help in this forum, not attitude.

I log and capture all day long, and ever since the upgrade, I get the same dialog box, and I don’t touch anything HD, all DV SD, bro… and I still get that message for no apparent reason, and the media is NOT NDF, good ol’ 29.97 NTSC SD DV.

This may be a late response, but for all of those searching for answers in the future, this may be one:
I had the same warning and I didn’t realize that under “Capture Settings” tab in the Log & Capture box, I didn’t check the Anamorphic box. When I checked it, the warning didn’t pop up. Of course, I’m working with anamorphic footage, so it applies.
