  • FCP 5.1 Out of Sync DV50 footage

Just upgraded to 5.1 and most working well. Came across a strange situation when working with DV50 footage. It’s working fine bringing in Beta through AJA and DV through Firewire and working in a DV sequence.

Just brought in some DVCpro50 footage through firewire at DV50 capture setting. And when I make a DV50 sequence and drop in any footage, it needs to be rendered (which it shouldn’t) and when I render it, it’s out of sync. To get around it for now, I create a DV sequence, drop in the footage and after rendering it plays fine in sync.

I opened the digitized quicktime movies and they play fine in QT player.

Is it a setting I am missing? BTW, the footage is out of sync by about a second. Very strange.

    Any thoughts. Thanks.

I do not see a DVCPro 50 deck in your profile. That may be your problem.

Old list. I now have a Panasonic AJ-SD93. I have been bringing in DV50 with this deck on FCP 4.5 with no problems.

[Don Forschmidt] “nd when I make a DV50 sequence and drop in any footage, it needs to be rendered (which it shouldn’t) and when I render it, it’s out of sync.”

you have something set wrong somewhere. Are you sure the footage is DV50? Are oyu sure dv50 is coming out of the firewire and not dv?

Control-q > Choose dv50 NTSC easy setup (not dv50 23.98), make new sequence, capture and away you go.

Oddly enough, I’m working with DVCPro50 in a DV50 setup and some clips most certianly drift out of sync or are simply out of sync from the beginning. No need to render any clips however.

    Running 5.x on Dual G5.
