has anyone else noticed that 5.0 seems to not let you scrub your timeline in “fastworard” as smoothly as 4.5 did? i am not sure if this is just me or what the deal is, but it’s a bit more “jumpy. also, i am not able to get very good multi cam viewing and editing, i am only trying to view 2 clips that are about 45 minutes long shot in mini dv standard def.

i feel like my system should be up to the task, and i did a clean tiger instal then final cut studio so there is no “junk” on it.

    Any Ideas?

    thanks

    “Any ideas?”

Yes, try do do the same on a dual 2.5, I have noticed big differences with respect to dual 2.0 especially on the Dynamic RT performances…
This is not justified by the actual performances of the CPUs. Is this a marketing move to limit “older” machines and force customers to replace their machines sooner than necessary?
A friend of mine noted the same behaviour.

Comments on this subject are welcome.

    Ale.

Yeah, i’ve noticed it both on a dual 2.5 g5 as well as a dual 1.25 g4… i think it’s called “Sticky timeline” i’ve read other things about it, so try searching on that.

Yes, we have noticed this on our 2 Gig Dual as well.

How many of you are using AJAs or other third party devices? I know at least two out of four of you are.

I’m using a Aja IO on a G4 dual 1.25 as well as a G5 without any third party device and the problems are still there… I know all of you would like to believe this product is better then 4.5 but it just isn’t yet. I’m hoping that the point release will clear up these issues but until then it’s not ready for any work place.

Sticky view an timeline is the worse. everything else i can deal with… but please do not stop the the workflow and the ability to play (at any speed) and stop are essential

It has nothing to do with belief. I teach classes to FCP users. Over the last two weeks I’ve been in classes with 13 machines and nine machines, in different locations around the country, and none of them exhibit the performance behavior you describe.

Perhaps you could describe it a little more fully, and maybe I’d be able to reproduce what you’re seeing. I’ll be in a class tomorrow with 19 machines in Austin, and we can see if we can make it happen there.

I did forget to mention above that if I turned off the AJA IO it does smooth out the playback. I thing it the AJA Beta drivers.

    Tom,
check it out, it’s more so with the viewer and not as much with the timeline. Playing forward in the viewer double time is mostly where i see it. But it also happenes occasionally in the timeline. You know its occurred when the picture freezes and the playbutton is still highlighted… it stalls for several seconds then catches up to itself. If in that time you start to click around in that bar under the viewer…you’ll confuse it even more and it takes even longer to catch up, but you’ll see it as it moves through all the clicks you made, seconds from the time you did it. It feels a bit like version 1 in that way.

i’m working all day today with 5.0 and it seems pretty consistent now.

Let me know what you find out.

    thanks

Anyone else see this? I tried 10 minute clips, five minute clips, short clips, master clips, subclips. I don’t get anything that freezes playback like this.
