June 20, 2005 at 3:30 amI had similar problems when I first started using 5, but now it’s fine. I wish I could pinpoint what fixed it, but here are some things I changed…
I made new window layout settings and new custom keyboard settings and saved them (even though they were imported from 4.5).
I toggled easy setups and refreshed AV devices.
Overall, for what I do, it’s much faster than 4.5…

June 20, 2005 at 5:13 pmDual 2.7 G5 with Tiger. I use an AJA I/O. I’ve been on FCP 5 for about two weeks. Most of my projects are very short and I have had no “Sticky Timeline”.
This weekend I was working on a very long presentation (2hrs). I would frequently get “Sticky Timeline” when I would playback at high speed (ie: hitting “L” 2 or 3 times) or when scrolling quickly with the mouse. This went for the timeline and the viewer. I was just attributing it to the very large, long clips I was working from.

June 21, 2005 at 1:54 pm[alex Maldonado] “has anyone else noticed that 5.0 seems to not let you scrub your timeline in “fastworard” as smoothly as 4.5 did?”
Keep in mind that both FCP and Motion are very reliant on the graphics card now for even smoother / faster performance. I installed the new ATI X800xt yesterday and FCP 5 was much snappier and faster than FCP 4.5 with my old nVidia 6800 card. That’s the only thing I changed on my machine. It’s still running the same 3GB RAM on a Dual 2.0.

June 21, 2005 at 4:34 pmwell, my media is around 5 minutes long for each clip and i’ve now tried it on a G5 dual 2.5 over network storage as well as a connected firewire 800 drive and a G4 dual 1.25 over a dual scsi drives as well as the same firewire 800 from above, and i find it happening all the time. From both the viewer and the canvas window and only happens when you move at high speeds and or scub through the clip or timeline.
I know some people aren’t having this issue, but i’ve notice that when i move a bit slower in selecting speeds it doesn’t seem to happen as much… So for those of you who are less punchy with your buttons You’ll probably not even notice… and those of us who are impatient, we’ll just deem it a nuisance, Lets hope for a update soon.
