I have been running FCP 4.5 Motion ST etc. on Tiger since the 29th without any problems
Actually they seem to be running faster (not that they were slow before)
Mail is cool and Safari seems smoother

but hey that is just me (and a lot of other users as well)

Do you have the Digital Cinema Desktop problem David? That video doesn’t play when you switch to it.

    Thanks.

    All the best,

[Sean ONeil] “To fix your Safari problems, call your ISP and get your DNS server addresses and manually enter them into the Network System Prefs. That fixed my problem as well as many others. It sucks but it’s better than waiting 3 minutes for a page to load. “

Page loads aren’t the problems with Safari, it’s just general functionality. I simply ran the whole Network setup three times in Tiger and then it finally “stuck” so as far as surfing the internet, Safari is as fast as ever with the cable modem. Just a lot of sites don’t seem to work right anymore so I’m running Firefox now and everything just works.

I guess I should be glad that Apple and MS don’t make cars!
When your clients pay you for a project on completion you would never say: I know this is not what I said it would be but this film/video/ tv ad is just a version 1 release I’ll be sending you updates at some unknown point.
So why is it okay for software companies to get away with it and so controversial to ask that they do the proper testing before they release it?

It’s not OK, but it happens with virtually every piece of software released.

Called our local apple store and they said not until the 17th as well. They stated they do not have FCP 5 on their shelves this weekend. Oh well, a few more days.

[solie swan] “So why is it okay for software companies to get away with it and so controversial to ask that they do the proper testing before they release it?”

It’s impossible for any software manufacturer to test their software with the infinite number of possible hardware / software configurations that every single user of their product will have. The system you’re running is different from mine which is different than anyone else’s. So it’s impossible for any software manufacturer to release a “bug free” software that will work on every single computer out there.

We’ve had people on these forums who almost can’t get their FCP systems to run. Others run them 24/7 with zero issues. What’s different about them? The setup, how they’re maintained, the temperature / humidity of the room, the software installed, the hardware installed, the plug-ins, how fragmented the drives are, etc., etc., etc……

So it’s not that we’re saying it’s “OK” for Apple to release buggy software on us, it’s just that the software they do release has been proven to work to their standards on whatever machines the software is tested on. So if you want to live on the “bleeding edge” and install every single update / upgrade the moment they’re released, you have to accept that you may have problems unique to your setup that did not present themselves in testing, especially pro apps like we use.
