    Hey i need some help i have a Panasonic DVX-100a and i just upgraded to Tiger and Final Cut Pro 5 and now FCP5 will not recognize the cameras existence. everything is plugged in right and power is on to everything and it is driving me crazy. the message that pops up is

    “Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presets and try again.”

    any help will be greatly appreciated.

    We had this problem and unfortunately it turned out to be a bad firewire port on the camera (apparently this specific camera has problems with the ports sometimes). However, if you have iMovie or a simple movie program on your computer – try getting that software to recognize your camera is plugged in. If that software recognizes the camera – you know you have a FCP issue. If not, it might be a hardware issue (like ourse was).

    These should help. You do probably need to uninstall QT and reinstall. Lots of people having this issue. I bookmarked these. I think I found them on this forum…

    Just outa curiousity, you did set the DVX up in VCR mode? I find myself (seemingly always) forgetting that one little yet crucial detail.
