FCP 5 wishy washy

This makes no sense whatsoever. Our work has been on a variety of machines, some not a good as yours, including editing on PowerBook off a FW800 drive, a single G4 processor. I’ve never seen what you describe.

I tried it again on my PB in a 32 minute sequence. L key three times and it played through the sequence without pausing, skipping, hesitating or crashing.

You might want to look at some other underlying cause, something else that’s active at the same time, something in your drive. I’m just not seeing or experiencing what’s happening to you, but at least two people have reported this or something similar. Without being able to isolate the cause it’s going to be really hard to fix.
