FCP 4.5 to Studio 5.11
So we tried installing Studio 5.1 on one of our editing machines connected to our XSAN. We’re upgrading from FCP 4.5. Everything installed fine and I trashed the FCP preferences just be sure and repaired permissions via Onyx. The program opened just fine. But the project, once updated from 4.5, looked very strange. About 90% of the timecode references were all gone and replaced by what appeared to be abitrary whole numbers.
The clips that were captured by that actual machine were hosed. Trying to play a clip resulted in “general error”. Looking through the finder at the media on the XSAN, it appeared they had lost their association with Final Cut. So, we tried renaming the clips with .mov. That worked to pull the clips in, but all time code references were gone. We couldn’t re-link the media in place of the old reference within FCP. Once we tried relinking, FCP crashed. Very strange behavior to say the least.
Well, since we’d already lost a day installing Studio and troubleshooting the problems, we decided this morning to go back to 4.5. All was just fine after that. The project opened just fine with all time code references (markers) back in the clips.
I wondered after all of this if it had anything to do with my not updating Quicktime to 7.1.1. We still use QT 7.0.4 because of Sorenson Squeeze. I’m probably just grasping at straws here.
Any ideas? I’d like to get this system on FCP 5.04 at least, but the upgrade we bought is version 5.1.
