  • FCP 4.5 or 5.1 on G5 Dual 2GHZ

    Hi all

I have a G5 Duo 2GHZ 8 GB Ram with two 500 GB FW800 drives thats gathering dust. I dont want to get rid of the system and would rather use it for the odd edit and training new staff – Something they can play around on without risking a new system.

Which would you recommend would run faster – FCP 4.5 or 5.1 ! I have heard that Ver 6.01 becomes super slow at times on a G5 and am not that keen to have the latest FCP but to have a dog of a machine.

Oh Yes the machine will mostly work with DV footage and the odd HDV clip

My mind is saying 5.1 what the verdict

I used both FCP v4 and v5 on my Dual 2.5 G5. I recall no change in speed between the two FCP versions. I suggest you use FCP 5.1.4. It’ll have the best HD functionality. HDV may be slow on your machine with either version (I don’t know if HDV was doable in v4). I’ve edited DVCPro HD on my G5 with no problems.
