  • fave settings for HVX200 720P for PAL delivery via MXO???

    Hi all

I am about to shoot a documentary for eventual PAL SD delivery, which will be done thus: FCP 2 > Matrox MXO > SDI > Digibeta deck (w serial deck control).

I’ll be shooting my sit-down interviews onto a FW disk via a MacBook Pro, and any GVs / exterior shots requiring mobility will be done onto the P2 cards.

    Choice: do I shoot 25p native, 25p over 50p, or straight 50p ??

Assuming I keep the timeline in FCP native to this choice, will the Matrox MXO care which of these signals it receives? It ought to be able to handle any of them for down conversion in mastering mode, right?

Also do we here feel that I need to be religious about adding a Firewire ExpressCard during recording, or will a DVC Pro HD / 25P signal from the camera co-exist with the output to an external disk drive pretty happily on the same bus?

Sorry to be so hypothetical, I do not have this kit in hand yet so cannot run a test…

    Any other gotchas?

    Thanks !

    Zrennk

For the latest 720p project I did my workflow was:

1:720 25pn on P2 Cards offloaded to an ixpensive external FW400 disk.
2: Copy to Mac Pro with AJA Xena 3
3: Log and capture with FCP 6.1 and delete mxf files after backing them up to DVD.
4: Place clips in timeline after choosing the appropriate AJA easy setup
    5: Assemble edit to Digibeta
6: Edit to AVID MC after offline capture
    7: Online for CC etc.
    8: Final Master Digibeta.

End result looked pretty good though the whole procedure takes ages, but it was due to the fact that post facility did not use the Macs for editing and they wanted it on the Unity.

Personally I suggest 720-25pn as it takes much less space and looks better than 50p that has more of a “TV” look but that’s dependent on your needs.

As for using the same bus for capturing and writing to your disk, I’d suggest doing a test prior to going forward with your plans.

    I hope this helped.
