    Soooooooo….
I’ve been researching what I can, reading the forums, looking at specs, now I need to ask for some real-world experience.

I have a budget of $1000 for my solution… maybe you have experience that will help me:

    My existing setup:
    (1) 2.8GHz Quad-Core Xeon Mac Pro with 8GB RAM, 1TB internal storage, 1.4TB external firewire 800 RAID 0 with 2 SATA drives in it, Final Cut Studio 2.0, (2) 22″ Samsung monitors, and (1) Dual Process 2GHz G5 with M-Audio Delta 1010 audio card, 4GB RAM, 1TB internal storage, running Logic Platinum

From everything I can tell, the way to fasted editing in Final Cut Pro is going to be adding fast storage. I thought there might be some video accelerator out there that would help me get more tracks of simultaneous video without having to render, but it seems those days went away with the old NuBus systems… (ANYONE besides me remember those days?) I actually had a pretty screaming fast system with my old 180MHz Mac and a Radius System attached… LOTS of hardware that cost a little more than $10K, but alas, those days are gone.

So… if storage IS the way to go, I have 2 brand new Spinpoint 1TB drives here, and could buy more if the solution warrants it. My question for you all:
IS a fast RAID card and multiple drives going to do it for me, AND IS there an enclosure you’re familiar with, (and it’s specific card?) that can be had for under $1000?

I’m all tapped out, having just purchased my GY-HD110, DTE recorder, new Mac Pro, crane and Steadicam. I have just $1K left. What’s my best bet… from YOUR experience? What would YOU do?

That’s very simple. Buy three 1Tb SATA drives for $130 apiece, put them in the three remaining bays inside your MacPro and stripe them as raid-0.
