Faster Render Time
I started working on a project that had numerous video tracks. I started seeing my render times increasing by 4 and 5 times in length. Since I am anticipating do more work like this, I am looking for a reasonable way to shorten these render times. I was told to consider a raid. I am currently using:
2 X 2.8 GHz Quad-Core
14 GB of Ram
FCP 6.0.6Any help or tips would greatly be appreciated.
Also wondering if a raid would help with RT playback in Motion.

The what format of files are you working with? RAIDED drives might help a bit, and a beefier GFX card (when dealing with Motion and certain FXPlug plugins in FCP)… but other than that…processors. Faster the better. ONE DAY they’ll release the hounds and get all the processors to be addressed by FCP.

Well, you will find that a raid will give you much better realtime performance than a single SATA drive, and thus you will have to render less often. However, actually making renders move “appreciably” faster is, as Shane said above, more a function of faster processors.
However, when using a raid you will undoubtedly experience a vastly improved editing experience. Just striping three 1.5Tb drives internally will give you a huge boost in performance, as throughput will be nearly 3X greater.

Also, you can build your effects intelligently. Submaster effects by exporting them, then reimporting them. Use different filters to build your effect (use FX Plug, etc.)
