    Hi,

I decided to take my editing a bit more seriously and have updated my computor massively. I am now running a Dell Precision M4500, windows 7 pro, i7 processor, 8GB Ram, NVIDIA graphics.

I wouldnt say I havent noticed the difference as I was running a 2GB laptop before…Wich was fun.

But still I really dont feel like I’m getting my moneys worth. I always make the priority of vegas high in task manager and put the dynamic RAM preview up to 7000.

What else can I do, starting to use premier and AE now but would still like to have vegas running fast if I need it

    Thanks,
    Josh

What was your reasoning for cranking up the dynamic RAM preview? Since you were expecting Vegas Pro to run faster, may I ask what part of the software were you expecting to see this increase? Faster renders? Smoother video preview playback? We also do not know what your previous hardware configuration was, so don’t know what you’re comparing it to.

Just so you know, my previous system that ran Vegas (Pro 8) was a laptop with Intel i3 CPU, integrated GPU and 8gb RAM. When I built my latest system, and installed Pro 12, they only performance improvement was a decrease in render times (strictly for YouTube) and smoother video preview playback. Other than that, there was no real difference between the two systems.

Cranking up ram preview slow down your system. I’d say leave that at 256 and turn off GPU. If the GPU isn’t faster then your cpu it slows down the system. Also what are your hard drives? 7200 rpm? and not the system drive? I have 3 sata two for playback one to render to.
I have a similar system to yours and Vegas works fine on mine. It’s a stock gateway i7 8 gig’s of ram. When I’mjust doing cuts and dissolves and titles I can leave preview in best full. I’m editing HDV footage. It could be your drives, it could be the codec of your video, but I don’t think Vegas is the problem.
