  • faint red in bottom 1/4 of frame?

Posted by Thom Zimmerman on October 17, 2006 at 6:16 pm

I have a 27F with very low miles and I saw something the other day when I was white balancing. In the bottom 1/4 of the frame I saw a faint red gradation going from side to side. When I pulled out I couldn’t see it. Then when I zoomed in to shoot some awards tight and I saw it again. I was shooing wide open at the time but when I stopped down to a 4+ it appeared to go away. Has anyone seen this problem before? Thom Zimmerman

Sound like a lens flare; if you see it again look at the front of the lens and if you can see a specular try to flag it off with your hand and see if it goes away.

Was it red or magenta? Was the gradation you refer to from top to bottom, or side to side-in other words, was the color getting stronger at the bottom of the frame, or at the side? If it’s magenta, it could be a white shading issue which becomes more apparent when you’re zoomed in all the way.

What did you do to fix the problem? I’m asking because I have a DVX100A with the same problem. Please let me know if Jeff at Panasonic had a contact for general questions like these.

    Thanks,
    Jeff
