I miss the rubber bands on the video and audio tracks in 6.5, and am wondering how to fade in video and audio like I used to do in 6.5 with the rubber bands in PPro? Do I have to create key frames to do this? It was so easy to just grab the band and fade up or down with audio in its track or with video in its track in 6.5? This probably seems quite novice, but PPro is new to me.

There are two ways I know of in p.pro to fade audio or video. 1. yes using key frames, go to far left of track in timeline, click one of the small icons that pops up “show track….” and switch to show track/clip keyframe, click little key frame button and adjust from there. 2. go to effects(video or audio) select cross dissolve or dip to black for video and place it at fade point on clip, for audio select audio cross fade and place it at begginning or end of clip, adjust length of effect for desired length.

The only change besides having to set the track up to actually see the keyframes is that you use the pen tool to create the nodes for the keyframes. You get used to it so that after a while you don’t even notice the difference.

The shortcuts for the default transition(s) is CTRL-D for targeted Video track and CTRL-SHIFT-D for targetted audio track.

If you set the Default as a Cross Disolve it is a very versatile transition and can be adjusted in the effects control window to be whatever you want through the options. eg a fade or an assymetrical cross dissolve.

Tip : Dble click on the transition in the timeline clip and the ECW opens automatically
