    Hello all,

I’m converting from Maya to Cinema 4d, So far I’m very pleased with the software.
    I have but one problem…..
I have to build a Juno statue which is reflective/refractive glass. I have an image mapped to the glass environment channel and it looks ok, but at the edges of the model no matter what setting I use renders very bright on the edge, almost like an additive layer. I’ve tried multiply, normal, subtract, etc.

In maya you could put a “facing ratio” utility on the camera and link it to the ambient shade and the reflection to say….
what ever is facing the camera is more transparent then the edges facing away from the camera and do the same with the reflections so they appear darker as they wrap around the curved side of the model.

Is there away to do this with Cinema 4D?

Use the Fresnel shader on top of your other shaders/ textures inside a Layer Shader. The name is misleading as it really is only a linear incidence gradient, but should give you what you need.

    another stupid newbie question….

where do you find the fresnal shader?

if I go to shaders it’s not listed.

It should be… It’s a standard shader and immediately appears in the main list when you open the texture slot arrow. It’s in the second section of the list –> Color-Fresnel-Gradient-Noise.
