I have been going over some manuals that I have and it is mentioned that using the F9 key will act the same as Insert Video. On my set up, it just reduces the size of all the FCP windows and greys them out unless the cursor is run across them and then it states in text which window is being touched. If I use Apple-F9 it works as expected. I have checked the keyboard commands and even reset them to default but the same thing still happens. Is there something else going on and is it possible to deactivate this other action? Any thoughts? How can I get F9 to insert video?

    Thanks,

    OS 10.3.9
    FCP 4.5

You needd to change your setting in your system prefs under Dashboard & Expose.

To clarify, that’s the computer system prefs, not FCP system prefs.

Thanks Steve, but I don’t have that option in my System Prefs. I’m still on 10.3.9. I looked in the keyboard layout and their are no quick keys designated for F9.

Go to Apple>system preferences>Expose. Then set all the keyboard options to none or –

OK, now I found it. That did it, thanks. I was looking in the wrong place initially.

You can also hold down the command key while pressing F9. This will also give you an insert edit and still allow you to use Expos

Or you can change your Expose settings to be any modifier key and the appropriate F-key in the System Settings for Expose.

    See? Lots of options!
