F65 RAW in Resolve
Posted by Juan Salvo on March 5, 2012 at 7:01 pmThere isn’t an f65 forum to post this in… but I’m really impressed with the new format. Just tested the raw support in Resolve and it drastically outperforms r3d in cpu decode. I’m getting easily RT in HD with best quality on the raw. Similar config with r3d would net 9-12fps, on a good day. In 2k with best settings still hitting 24fps, 4k gets it down to ~18fps. That’s just with one node. Still, it’s easily double the performance of r3d without a red rocket.

March 5, 2012 at 7:11 pmHi Juan,
Great to hear. Out of curiosity, is the footage you’re working with a camera test or a completed production? Just wondering where these cameras are in terms of market proliferation…

March 5, 2012 at 10:19 pmHey Juan,
Footage I am opening in DaVinci looks little noisier than same footage opened in F65RawViewer software. Is there a LUT for F65 footage that would make raw material look more like Rec709?

March 5, 2012 at 10:34 pmAre you comparing the noise level of footage in SR Viewers desktop window to the noise level on a external monitor from davinci?
Comparing the noise from F65 viewer app exported DPX sequence to that of F65 RAW, both in davinci, I see no difference.

March 5, 2012 at 11:39 pmI do not have external monitor connected right now. I am looking at viewer window of F65RAW Viewer and at viewer in DaVinci Resolve and I see noticeable difference.

March 6, 2012 at 12:03 amYou should take that with a HUGE grain of salt.
To elaborate: sr viewer rasterizes frame to viewer size. Resolve rasterizes to project dimensions then scales to viewer size.

Tomorrow I will connect external monitor and do more thorough check. I have lots of great footage to test. -

March 6, 2012 at 12:05 pmI just installed Resolve 8.2 but it doesn’t seem to recognize F65 footage. Any clue?

March 6, 2012 at 2:20 pmThe folder structure is very particular. Try moving the sub folders so that it’s just the mxfs inside the f65 folder. That’s just a wild guess, don’t know if it will do anything, but it’s easy enough to try right?
