  • Extruding a logo in Marquee

I have a company logo that I would like to make into a 3D object using the extrusion feature inside Marquee. The graphic is a multi-layered PSD file with no background that I can flatten first or convert to PNG. I can also add a white alpha channel if needed. Is it possible to make this in Marquee? I know I’m doing something wrong because when I first tried it Marquee extruded the rectangular dimensions instead of just the logo.

Suggestions would be gladly accepted 🙂

I’ve never used the Marquee tool before. However I strongly recommend you start using After Effects for this kind of stuff. If you don’t know how to use it yet, it’s well worth the investment.

    Here’s a nice extrude tutorial:

And if I’m not mistaken you can download a trial version of After Effects on the Adobe site.

Thanks for your input, Joshua, and for the link to the Youtube tutorial. Although I realize that AE is a ‘go to’ app for this sort of thing I’m not involved enough in graphic design to justify the expense. I do have Marquee, however, which is part of Avid MC/Symphony and is quite capable of doing this little task. I just have to figure out how to do it. I look forward to watching your tutorial recommendation which may help me to understand the basic principles involved.

    Cheers,

Joshua, great minds think alike: I did the same Google search and read that same article. It’s from 2005 and states that Marquee will only extrude something like a logo if you turn it into a ‘font’ first. There are programs that will do this but still cost hundreds. Which begs the question: is Marquee able to now do this task in 2013?

To Morton: thanks for the post and I will re-visit those 5 advanced episodes to see if Kevin has any info that I may have missed. There are 10 Marquee episodes in total, so hopefully I’ll find something.

    Cheers,

    Don
