I was about to finish rendering a bunch of photos on a FCP sequence, when the FCP quit out. Now, when I try to reopen the project it only gets to the pop up message …preparing video display… and keeps quitting out.

Since I have an early version of the project without a few bins, is there a place where I can just recover the bins and add the to the old version? I know the fcp is trying to prepare the photo seq for viewing, but something might be corrupted in that specific sequence. Is it possible to stop the process of preparing the video to open the project, any shortcuts?

    thanks,
    PC

Look in the AUTOSAVE VAULT. There should be regular backups there. Try to open one of these.

I did but the latest I found in the vault was 4 hours earlier and I added a bunch of bins and organized clips during that time. I’ll take that there’s no way to salvage any part of the project even if only one sequence goes corrupted and the fcp tries to open it as you launch it, right? With the avid, you could open the project folder and copy the bins and paste them into another project, avoiding the trouble sequence and potentially saving yourself to redo a lot of work.

But in this case, where do you change the saving frequency for backing up versions in the autosave vault?

    Thanks,

4 hours ?! The default setting is nowhere near that.
Is it possible you have more than 1 Autosave vault ? The vault’s location is set in System Prefs, the autosave frequency is set in user prefs. FCP’s bins are part of the project and are not discrete files…so you cannot recover them. If you cant find a newer Autosave, try opening your project without your media drives mounted. The project may open with all media offline. You can then get to your bins.

    Thanks John,

I think because I created this project on a “alias” folder, somehow didn’t register on the autosave vault the way it should. I still need to find out how alias folders work.

you can reimport media from your scratch folders, but unfortunately not within previously assigned bins. You can adjust your autosave in the preferences, user settings.

Maybe you should use a middle intial. FCP could be having issues with your intials being “PC”?

    Good luck.

😉 I promise the next mass baptism apple does, I’ll be there to change my name and make it more apple compatible.
