  • Extracting a clip or scene from a DVD

Posted by Ben Matt on April 24, 2009 at 4:59 pm

I own the entire Adobe CS4 production premium. I score films in my part time, and the producer I worked for did not provide me with the actual scenes, but instead handed me the entire DVD. I need to know if there is a way I can extract a chapter or scene and convert it to quicktime or something using Adobe Premier.

If this is possible could you please give me step by step advise doing it with Premier.

I just need it for referencing purposes. I bring the Quicktime scene into Sonar Producer, where I score the scene. I do also own the latest version of Soronson Squeeze Pro.

    I am on a PC.

    I appreciate any help.

    Hi Ben,

Have you tried copying the .vob files off of the DVD? You can change the file extension to .mpeg and then import into premiere for encoding into another format, or just play using VLC media player. There is also a program called mpeg streamclip that can rip the DVD to quick time for you.

    Great all purpose player: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

    MPEG Streamclip: https://www.squared5.com/

PS: Check out the readme for instructions on mpeg streamclip. If you do not have quicktime pro then you will need quicktime alternative player for windows.
