I pulled out my old Canon HV10 HDV camcorder to transfer the tapes to a hard drive. I am using Vegas Studio 9 Plat. The internal capture seems to be working. When I try to load the “external” Sony Capture program, it will not recognize the HV10. Any ideas?

The internal capture is not giving me “auto scene” detection, just one long file.

    Thanks

Do you have the HV10 set for HDV output or DV output? If the cam is set for DV output then it will not be recognized by the HDV capture program.

Just to reiterate what Rob said in a different way:

The internal capture utility is for HD only.

The external capture utility is for DV(SD) only.

All HDV camcorders have two modes. They can record SD and HD to tape. Even if you recorded HD to tape, they will (optionally) downconvert that to DV on capture if you place them into DV mode.

So if you want to use the external capture utility, then you must want to capture DV, therefore place your camera into DV mode. Otherwsie leave your capture in HD mode and capture with the internal utility.

Do you have that option turned on? In the preferences of the internal capture window you can turn this on an off.

    Thanks.

I must have it in HDV mode since the internal capture is working fine getting a HD image. I thought the external capture module gave more “options or flexibility”, but I guess captured HDV is what it is, it is not like capturing a analog source where I would pick the format.

    Thanks again.
