    Hello,

I’m working on a video for a client that is going to be viewed only on the internet. I have a pro external monitor connected to my miniDV deck with S-VHS. Then the deck is connected through firewire into FCP6. By printing bars and tone to tape and then playing that tape to view it on the monitor, I set the color bars. The image on my external monitor looks a bit different from my computer monitor, which is what I expect and why we use the external monitor to begin with, but it leads me to this question:

Since this video is only going to be viewed on the internet, when I color correct and do those sorts of things, do I reference my external monitor or my computer screen?

This is a valid question, right? Because if others will view it on a computer screen, shouldn’t I make it look good on my computer screen? I ask this because if reference my monitor, the image doesn’t look as good when it’s on the computer screen, and the same goes for the other way around.
Or perhaps I didn’t set the color bars correctly…

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

Reference the computer screen. Also note if you use H.264 for your web streams, it will automatically detect a PC or Mac and change the gammas accordingly… cool thing for sure.
