So I got my sony Z1 and deck last week. I’m now finding that FCP 5 does bot support external monitoring of HDV. I have a Sony LCD Luma monitor. The HDV looks great when played directly into the monitor. For obvious reasons I’d like to monitor my HDV timelines on this sweet monitor.
So what are my options? Do I need a Kona 2?
If so can I go component out into my monitor or will I need to go HD-SDI?

A KONA card just seems like an expensive solution to a seemingly simple problem.

    Thanks Brian

If that monitor has DVI too, you’ll need nothing else. But Apple’s Desktop Cinema Preview won’t output to SDI.

Yep…gonna need an HD capture card. Decklink would be a good option. A fellow at the Aple forums found this tidbit of info:

“Blackmagic DeckLink v5.0 includes a host of new features including full support for all the new features in Final Cut Pro HD

really complicated is what I’m finding out.
I think Sony and Apple have mislead the public about the ease of use.
