External Monitor Not smooth

What kind of monitor? How is it connected? If it looks worse than the canvas something’s wrong. The canvas is low rez.

When the timeline is stopped, the image will “dance” (jitter) if you have stopped on a frame with some motion in it, because the the video interlace.

Is that what you mean by “strobe”?

Greg,

A composite video signal is the lowest quality video signal there is, prone to dot crawl, judder, and a host of other anomalies. You have an AJA card and a Beta deck, so you should be able to loop a component signal through to a monitor. If your monitor has no component signal, you really must replace it if you ever want a client monitor to display a realistic and satisfactory representaion of your work.

To me that sounds like a field-domminance problem. If you are setting upper-first footage in a lower-first time-line, or the opposite, FC try to correct the difference in the field-domminance aplying a shift-fields filter to the clips in the time-line. The problem is that your KONA try to do the same so the fields order is chaged twice, and the result is wrong order. At least its happens like that with the Blackmagic cards. The solution (if is this the problem) is to uncheck the shift-field filter in the clips and the videocard will do it OK.

Where would I find this to uncheck it? How can I see if this is indeed the problem? It must be something in Final Cut as I also edit on Media 100 on this system with no problems like this.

The playback frame rate on the timeline was set to half. Changed it to dynamic and the problem was fixed. Thanks guys!
