I often have issues with the external monitor not refreshing after a change, particularly, while color-correcting. I’m not talking about the normal lag while it recalculates, but never refreshing. I have to hit play or move the playhead to get the screen to reflect the change. Sometimes more than once.

AJA Kona 3 with current driver, FCP 7, OS 10.6.5

    Normal? Any ideas?

    Tod,

Excellent question which seems to have no great answers as far as I know.

When you figure out a solution to this one you’ll be able to bottle it and sell it.

Monitors that don’t refresh when adjusting CC filters are immensely annoying, a huge waste of time as well, and undoubtedly a major contributor to carpel tunnel syndrome for anyone who routinely grades long-form projects.

The best answer I have at the moment:

    1) hit the right arrow key. This works sometimes.
    2) Use Cmd-F12 to “refresh AV”

Doesn’t solve the problem of not seeing the change as you make it.

It\’s an FCP quirk. The timeline window must be selected immediately prior to adjusting any of the CC controls in order for the external display to update with the correction. Annoying, but true. It\’s just become second nature for me to click on the timeline window prior to dragging the sliders or moving the cursor in the CC wheels.

UGH!!! Yes, that is annoying Alan. I’ve kind of always wondered why it seemed intermittent, I’m usually working so fast and so focused when I grade that I don’t really want to think about what I’m doing with the interface. Now I know exactly why… Thanks!
